Game, Set and Match! How to get yourself and your garden in shape for Wimbledon

Hot on the heels of Royal Ascot, we are having another great British institution to look forward to in the shape of Wimbledon, which will run for two weeks until the final on July 11th. Here’s what you can do to get yourself and your garden ready for the world’s greatest tennis tournament.

Fix your Lawn

This is lawn tennis after all, so why not give your garden the tip top treatment so it’s truly worthy of a Grand Slam.

Invest in some luxury lawn seed to achieve the dense, fine-leaved sward that will ensure your grass is velvety and lush or - if it’s a bit late for that now - you can overseed and patch things up with a tough variety that won’t just stand up to the wear and tear of tennis balls, but will also be able to resist dog urine damage.

Make sure you keep lawns well-watered throughout the hot, dry days of summer, using sprinklers in the evening when there is less chance of water evaporating. Strimming and mowing will also be on the cards for keeping established grass in good order throughout the peak growing season.

Throw some shade

Tennis can be a long, hot game, so make sure you’ve put up some strategically placed parasols if you plan to catch a match in your garden. If you’d rather stay indoors, it’ll probably be curtains closed for the duration, but either way you’re likely to want refreshments. Pimms anyone?

Just add some delicious English strawberries and cream - then maybe a few cucumber sandwiches, homemade scones with strawberry jam and a lovely cup of tea to really start creating the Wimbledon experience.

Dress the part

Whether you’re watching at home or actually managed to score a ticket for the All England Club this season, you’re going to want to look the part. Wimbledon offers all sorts of opportunities for stylish summer dressing, whether it’s a perfect floral tea dress or crisply ironed shorts and a Fred Perry shirt. Add a wide-brimmed sun-hat and wedges if you’re going for the floaty dress option, or pristine tennis pumps and designer watch if you’re going more down the Andre Agassi route.

Last but not least, don’t forget your sunglasses!
