With Covid restrictions and social distancing still very much a consideration when planning any event at the moment, a romantic meal in a restaurant may not be on the cards for you and that special someone this Valentine’s Day – but, fear not, you can still celebrate in style. If months of staying home has left you missing the excitement of getting ready to go out, then do just that by sticking on your coat and heading out to your garden or balcony for a night of romance.
Valentine’s Day falls on a weekend this year, so if we are blessed with a bright day, why not have a lunchtime celebration in the winter sunshine; but be sure to have some romantic lighting at the ready if you stay out longer than expected. Think outdoor lanterns, strings of lights hung overhead, up on tree branches, or along balcony railings. For those with limited space or on a budget, even just a few tealights in jam jars nearby or on the table will create an atmosphere.
And, if you like the idea of a cosy evening under the stars, then why not take advantage of everything the Hygge concept has to offer? Picture the inviting glow of outdoor lighting, a firepit or outdoor electric heater, and warm blankets or faux furs draped over chairs to snuggle up in when it gets chilly.
Comfort is key when planning a romantic setting and, if you want an informal evening with drinks and nibbles, then low seating with cushions is perfect for nestling into. The sofas and sofa chairs in the Ipanema collection provide a relaxed setting, ideal for lounging, conversation and casual dining with a unique rope design, whilst the Bahamas range is almost as if you have moved your sofa into the garden with deep filled cushions for the ultimate in al fresco chilling.
Or, if you have your heart set on recreating the Hygge style, look no further than the Nordic-inspired Eve range, with its warm teak frame and turquoise cushions. Take your pick from a variety of models; whether you want to cuddle up on a two-seater sofa or dine at a table for two.
Set hearts fluttering with a pop of pink from the Nassau collection. The colourful combos of this contemporary range are by no means just for summer and are just right if you are after a more minimalistic dining approach. Set the scene and give the Nassau carver chairs a cosy edge by using faux sheepskin rugs as seat covers or hanging comfy throws over the back for practical purposes, whilst also creating a gorgeous aesthetic for your romantic meal for two.
And, if you find your perfect match with your garden furniture but would actually rather enjoy it by yourself, then why not snuggle up under a blanket with a good book? Might we suggest The Little Book of Hygge for a tad more inspiration?
