LifestyleGarden®’s new sustainable Eden Project ranges hold the key to transforming outdoor living category sales

Eden Project and LifestyleGarden

LifestyleGarden®’s blossoming partnership with the Eden Project is driving demand for the company’s new generation of eco-friendly outdoor furniture – a product portfolio that’s transforming the outdoor living category by raising the bar for sustainability.

Under the partnership, which saw LifestyleGarden® selected as Eden’s exclusive outdoor furniture partner, its new season furniture ranges will carry Eden Project branding, a move that is providing retailers with a unique point of difference and is underpinning consumer confidence at a time when environmental responsibility is at the top of shoppers’ agendas. ScanCom International, the parent company of LifestyleGarden®, has built a thriving global business based on its ethos of ‘Doing Business the Right Way’ while the Eden Project, which attracts almost 1.1million visitors per year, has established an enviable world-wide reputation as an educational charity with its roots deeply embedded in conservation work to provide a better future.

At the heart of the new relationship is DuraOcean®, the ground-breaking, award-winning chair made from nets, ropes and plastic waste salvaged from the world’s seas, with each chair crafted from 3.5kg of recovered ocean plastic. An exhibit of DuraOcean® on a replica beach in Eden’s Mediterranean biome has ignited interest in DuraOcean® at a time when concern over ocean plastic waste is at an all-time high.

Paul Cohen, Sales Director at LifestyleGarden®, said: “Displaying Eden Project branding on our 2020 ranges, combined with the launch of the highly acclaimed DuraOcean®, holds the key to revolutionising the way in which retailers will sell outdoor furniture next season. The replica beach at Eden has resonated with the project’s visitors this year, hitting home the message that it’s possible to buy stylish, robust outdoor furniture that leaves a positive impact on the planet. Retailers have been placing orders with confidence, knowing that consumers will be inspired by the story behind DuraOcean® and our partnership with Eden, which is driven by the same common goal of leaving the planet in better shape for the next generation.”

DuraOcean®, which was crowned best new product at SOLEX in July, is being hailed as a prime example of closed-loop thinking – a product made from recycled marine waste that can also be fully recycled at the end of its life. With around 300 million tonnes of plastic waste created globally every year, and pollution killing more than 100,000 marine creatures, the DuraOcean® Exhibit at Eden has thrown the spotlight on how waste can be salvaged from the world’s seas and recycled into the ultimate must-have outdoor living product. The eco-friendly range has launched with a DuraOcean® bistro set, which features the Nassau FSC Eucalyptus table.

LifestyleGarden®’s exclusive new ranges are also taking pride of place in the Eden Kitchen, known to visitors as the main dining area that sits between Eden’s two famous biomes. As part of a refit of the landmark Cornish attraction’s catering facilities, LifestyleGarden®’s limited edition Banyan Tree Cast Aluminum Chairs, inspired by the Banyan Tree in Eden’s Rainforest Biome, have been installed and paired with the company’s automatically self-levelling and folding Gyro Bistro Tables – showcasing the latest innovative sustainable furniture at Eden’s heart.

In a further example of how LifestyleGarden®’s partnership with Eden is bearing fruit, LifestyleGarden® is introducing exclusive Eden designs and patterns that provide a stand-out difference on cushions and deckchairs, helping retailers to generate additional add-on sales opportunities.

The special licensing agreement was sealed after Eden scrutinised ScanCom’s worldwide commitment to ethical business. From guaranteeing fair and safe working environments for its employees to using recycled and recyclable ethically sourced materials, and a proven commitment to waste reduction, every aspect of the operation had to meet or exceed stringent standards to successfully partner with Eden to promote environmental sustainability.
